We've heard of the infamous chicken & waffles, but are donuts & chicken a winning combination too?
How can a place that names itself Do-Rite Do-Wrong? Lame puns aside I noticed this place and decided to stop by for lunch. I've had chicken & waffles, but chicken & donuts? Sorry to say, but in the end this place perfectly encapsulates why you don't put those two together.
A hipster delight

Tangents aside, the cashiers were nice and energetic. They happily took my order of a Pistachio donut, Vera Cruz breakfast sandwich, orange juice and a Sweet Heat sandwich for $22. The price when she rang me up literally made me do a double take. I mean, what was I buying here?
The Pistachio donut was literally the best donut I've ever had in years, it seems almost worth the $3 plus tax that was spent on it. The donut was pretty big, had ample amounts of frosting and pistachios. Do be warned it was pretty darn sweet. So if super sweet things aren't in your palate, stay away from here because that level of sweetness is consistent here.
The Sweet Heat was fried chicken with a glazed donut for bread with maple aioli. It honestly looked terrible when they handed it to me. Everything on it seemed to be rushed and under-cooked which is odd since the place wasn't busy at all. The donut was too soft and fell apart, the chicken breading was watery thin (at first I thought it was baked not fried chicken!), and the super sweet maple aioli which looked like chocolate pudding just completed this disaster of a sugary mess. If anything says you don't mix donuts and chicken this is it!
Do-Rite's breakfast sandwich, The Vera Cruz, fared better. I thought it would've included chicken, but you have to ask for it so mine just had eggs. The eggs were pretty under-cooked making it simultaneously super fluffy and runny. There was also way too much avocado which overpowered everything. After a couple of bites I just threw out all the avocado and it became a much tolerable sandwich.
Overall, I'd come here just for the donuts (which are amazing) and chicken only (no sandwiches) since it seems anything outside of that range has some kinks to work out or just falls flat entirely. For those that work with me, guess what we're having for donuts next time ;-)
